An Unforgettable 12-Day Kimberley Adventure in the Australian Outback with the Best Guide Imaginable!

This past August, our two families (with kids) embarked on a 12-day safari through the Kimberley region in Australia. What was initially going to be a self drive hire car option, became the ultimate Aussie experience when we engaged Charter North to manage all the logistics, design our itinerary, and lead our outback expedition. Let me tell you, the Kimberley is something else. Stunning landscapes, incredible wildlife you won’t find anywhere else, and best of all, no crowds. It’s pure, wild beauty.
Our accommodation was a cool mix of rustic homesteads, eco lodges and true Aussie camping. There’s something so romantic about falling asleep under a blanket of stars in the Kimberley sky while the campfire glows close by. Picture this: watching the sunset paint the sky in brilliant colors over ancient boab trees and the red soil of the Kimberley savanna, waking up to the sounds of many birds, and seeing massive flocks of pelicans flying overhead. Pure magic!
But the real highlight of our trip was our guide, *Greig Taylor (GT), the owner/operator of **Charter North 4WD Safaris*. This guy is the real deal. GT is a charming, outgoing, hilarious, and super positive guy—an absolute pleasure to be around. He’s been guiding tours through the Kimberley and Northern Australia for over 30 years, and his experience is exceptional!
His knowledge is incredible. We’re talking about travel routes, the best campsites, wildlife, plants, local history, culture, and even archaeology. GT knows and connects with the Kimberley landscapes as his home. He’s also a trained first-aider and a total pro at handling the 4WD vehicle on the toughest of roads. Oh, and he’s a fantastic cook to boot! He was incredibly flexible, always adapting the schedule to our group’s pace and interests. You will never be bored with GT.
A huge bonus for us as international travelers: traveling with GT is an amazing way to practice your English! He’s a great conversationalist who eagerly jumps into any topic you raise, diving in with genuine enthusiasm.
By the end of the tour, we felt like we were saying goodbye to a good friend. We can’t recommend GT and Charter North highly enough for their planning and guiding for anyone wanting to see the real North Australian landscapes.
