Broome is a long time favourite Australian holiday destination. With its population tripling during the high season, it is not surprising that there is a wide array of accommodation available. From caravan parks to five start resorts and with an increasing number of AirBnBs, there is an option for any taste and budget. To help you pick the best of the bunch, we have put together a list of our favourite places to stay, each with a unique character.
Before choosing your hotel, you should be aware that Broome is divided into two separate sections: Broome Town and Cable Beach are about 7kms apart, so you will need to decide whether to stay in town or close to the beach. There is an affordable bus service that runs between both parts of Broome.
McAlpine House
McAlpine house is located in a quiet tree- lined street of Broome Town. This Pinctada property offers tasteful accommodation in a historic Master Pearler’s home that has been transformed into an award winning boutique retreat. If you would like to experience Broome’s traditional tropical lifestyle, this is the place for you. The small property has been decorated in a marine theme that reflects the pearling history of Broome, with plenty of privacy and breezy, shady areas to retrieve to. There is also a small pool and deck set amongst tropical greenery. There are only eight rooms in total, allowing the managers to offer a personalised service that will make you feel at home as soon as you arrive. Last but not least, a delicious breakfast buffet is included in the room price and will set you up for a day of exploring.

Bali Hai Resort & Spa
Another tropical gem, located close to Cable Beach, is the Bali Hai. This resort accommodation is one of the all time favourites in Broome, providing tasteful self-contained villas with an Asian flair reflecting Broome’s multicultural heritage. There is good separation between all villas, giving you plenty of privacy while enjoying the lush outdoor areas of the property. A large shaded pool and private outdoor showers are only some of the highlights. Professional service and a superb on site cafe/ restaurant round off the experience.
The Billi
One of Broome’s more recent additions, the Billi offers unique accommodation in proximity to Cable Beach. As a refreshing alternative to hotels rooms, here you can stay in a luxurious safari tent surrounded by tropical vegetation. Modern one and two bedroom self contained villas are also available and the property is family friendly. The entire property and all accommodation have been tastefully designed and fitted out with quality furnishings. There is a great pool area and super friendly service.
The Mangrove Hotel
The Mangrove Hotel holds pole position on the town side of Broome in walking distance to shops and restaurants. Elevated and overlooking Roebuck Bay, this is the perfect place to be for observing the Staircase to the Moon. The Mangrove offers modern amenities with a bright, open atmosphere. There is a fantastic outdoor area with a well stocked bar and two pools, plenty of sun chairs, shade and relaxation areas. The only downside here is that the sand flies can get pretty active depending on tidal conditions.

Beaches of Broome
If you are looking for a budget option in Broome that is not your typical backpacker hostel, Beaches of Broome offers a good alternative. This is a modern, clean and well managed property with a variety of accommodation options. In addition to their dorm rooms, Beaches offer affordable twin and double rooms with en-suite. This is not a backpacker party place, but rather a laid back, family friendly option drawing a diverse mix of travellers. There is a great pool area and a continental breakfast is included. Needless to say that you won’t get the same luxury experience as you would in one of Broome’s high- end resorts, however Beaches is a great value option in a perfect location.
